the infinite wrench
2018-present
I’ve written and directed over 250 short plays for The Infinite Wrench at The Neo-Futurist Theater.
My plays contrast elevated language and movement with the bizarre features of everyday experience. I aim to hook the audience with something silly or recognizable, then subvert our relationship to explore something more demanding.
In custom ranch, two scientists and an audience member dye, mix, and re-bottle ranch dressing.
In Teardrop Sphere Unhappiness, we use a post-basketball physicality to center ourselves in a hostile zeitgeist of AI, online fascism, and the music of Ed Sheeran.
GARY VERSUS BRAD, my most-performed work, reports on a surreal confrontation I witnessed in my neighborhood, then culminates in a rave with the entire audience. We reject recorded music and provide the soundtrack with our claps, stomps, and voices.
Throughout my plays I emphasize live music and embodiment as much as possible. When I do incorporate recordings or digital reproduction, I make the technological landscape of the performance intentional and coherent.
Joyful collaboration is at the center of my writing-directing.
